News: Dominican Republic tourism reaches record highs 2021

Tourism in the Dominican Republic is recovering strongly after the drastic fall in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the last quarter of 2021, non-resident arrivals reached record numbers, with December being the month with the highest number of tourists registered so far, some 728,335.
This figure is added to the 4,263,259 visitors who arrived in the country between January and November of last year, for a total of 4,991,594 tourists during 2021, impressive figures understanding that the pandemic is still very latent throughout the world.
Arrivals by sea had a growth of 268% in relation to December 2020, about 165,609 tourists of 115 nationalities.
Collado highlighted that more than 93% of tourists who visited the country in 2021 are vaccinated, according to the results of the tourist survey on satisfaction and safety, conducted on a sample of 16,133 visitors.
The survey showed that 91% of visitors showed interest in returning to the country and rated their experience in the tourist poles with 4.4 out of 5. Beaches are one of the main attractions of Dominican tourism, reaching a popularity of 84%.
The Central Bank presented preliminary figures for the growth of the Dominican economy in 2021 of 12%. According to the Tourism Minister, 38.3% of this growth was the product of the push that the sector had, placing it as the number one industry in the economy.
